CRU Research to Be Featured at 2024 STI Prevention Conference

The 2024 STI Prevention conference will be held in Atlanta, GA, from Sept. 16 to 19, 2024. This event is a biennial conference that brings together international leading researchers with government experts, clinical STD care providers, and state and local public health administrators.[1]

Several members of CRU will travel to Atlanta to give talks and present posters as follows.

Tuesday, Sept. 17

  • Dr. Jason Zucker will be a discussant in "Necrotizing Facial Mpox Infection Complicated by Paradoxical Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome and Concomitant Cutaneous CMV Infection in a Person with HIV," from the "Oral Lesions" clinical case series.
  • Dr. Zucker will present "Implementation of Doxy-PEP in a Diverse Sexual Health Program in Northern Manhattan" at the oral session "Put Some More PEP in Your (STI Prevention) Step Implementation Rollout." This work includes contributions by several other CRU members: Dr. Magda Sobieszczyk, Dr. Delivette Castor, Dr. Jacob McLean, Dr. Zucker, and Simian Huang.
  • The poster session will feature "STI Testing and Diagnosis Rates Among Patients with Mpox in 2 Populous US Cities, 2022," which includes contributions from Dr. McLean, Dr. Zucker, and Simian Huang.

Wednesday, Sept. 18

  • Dr. Zucker will moderate the oral session "Congenital Syphilis: Focus on Infant Diagnosis and Prevention."
  • The poster session will feature the following work by CRU members:

    • "'I Just Have a Quick Question' – Reaching Towards Ending the HIV Epidemic Goals Through Electronic Medical Record Secure Group Messaging" (contributions by Dr. Zucker)
    • "Improving the Discussion of EPT in a Sexual Health Clinic" (contributions by Dr. Zucker)
    • "Elucidating Health Inequities and Research Gaps in HIV and Other Sexually Transmitted Infections Using Data Mining and a Large Language Model: A Computational Scoping Review" (contributions by Dr. Zucker)
    • "Pilot Randomized Control Trial of a Digital Patient Decision Aid to Facilitate Gonorrhea and Chlamydia Screening in the Emergency Department (STIckER)" (presented by Dr. Zucker; contributions by Dr. Castor)

Thursday, Sept. 19

  • In the oral session "Time for a PEP Rally: Doxy-PEP Interventions," Dr. Zucker will present "The Impact of Doxy-PEP: Effective Use and Changes in Prevention Behaviors," which includes contributions by Max Flanagan, Jenny Li, Simian Huang, Diego Ramirez, Dr. Theodore, Dr. Sobieszczyk, and Dr. Castor.
